As cars become more advanced and complex with each passing year, it has now reached a point where car owners must seek or get repair work done at a new car dealership. They do not have the choice of many repairs at regular repair shops or similar as they do not have access to the technology that can read the newer computers and service information. Without this an effective repair and diagnosis cannot be done. This has become a great money making opportunity for the car dealers and their manufacturers to effectively monopolize the repair market and jack up prices on parts and services. This is why there is a new bill that, if congress passes it, will change this and make car repairs and service a more affordable option.

Since congress instituted the anti trust legislation which encourages fair trade and business practices (some companies like Microsoft still try to ride the extreme edge of these laws) most businesses have complied. Some companies, though, when afforded an opportunity to make extra cash (and lots of it) by stifling the competition and artificially raising prices and entrapping customers (can we say illegal monopoly) run at the opportunity. Companies like the auto manufacturers of today have currently done with the with holding of crucial technology and information systems to regular or non name repair shops. This effectively makes it so that you the consumer immediately have a greatly reduced choice of where you can go for repairs and service.

That is not fair, causes unfair competition and business hurdles, drives up prices and, most importantly, is highly illegal. Yes, the big auto manufacturers are currently spending millions on high paid lobbying firms in Washington to get the bill and subsequent legislation squashed or at least greatly reduced. This is how business is done in Washington and on the federal level. Its called pork barrel politics and it is not about what is fair and good for the consumer. Many times a well intentioned bill, funding or similar gets squashed or minimized to the point where it either does not have any effect or, in some places, the complete opposite results.

Case in point, the AMT (Alternative Minimum Tax) was brought about to tax the rich more and in the end it actually does not touch the rich and entraps many members of the middle class. The rich can afford big lawyers and lobbyists and literally get away with murder (for a great example just look at O.J. Simpson and his dream team with Cochran and others). They can get a presidential pardon for donating $500,000 or so to a presidents memorial library fund or similar (just look at the list of people that Bill Clinton pardoned on his way out of the presidency (one was an automotive and NASCAR magnate with over 50 felony charges and all were pardoned away)!

Why I am telling you this is because the Right To Repair Act is another very well intentioned bill that will lower automotive repair costs as it encourages healthy competition. It will make the auto manufacturers release codes, technical data and equipment to the entire repair industry. It will allow you to get your car or truck serviced wherever you like. You should be able to get your car serviced wherever you like and, if you feel adept enough or properly trained, to work on it yourself.

The automotive industry wants it squashed as they are now literally allowed to have a monopoly on where their car owners go for service. A monopoly on service and related auto repairs means a financial windfall for all involved except the consumer. Just go to your local car dealership and have something simple and what you would think cheap to repair diagnosed. See what the service advisor tells you. You will almost pass out. On average new car dealer service departments charge twice what your local service shop does. And they routinely recommend things that are not necessary or needed.

The car manufacturers argument is that they have the best training and can best work on your car so it helps the consumer. This is simply not true. I actually worked at numerous car dealerships for many years and have seen many gaffs, mistakes, and acts of stupidity done by the service departments. The same mechanics that work at your local car dealership actually are no better qualified then your local mechanics with the same training (ASE and similar).

Why can I say this? Because they are the exact SAME mechanics. Where do you think the car dealership mechanics go when they finally get tired of being lied to and having their pay cut or a performance bonus missed while the car dealer and general managers are just banking it. They leave and go to regular service shops and some go out on their own and launch their own repair shop or service station. Many of these service shops have stringent training requirements that exceed your state requirements and even that of the new car dealerships.

So, basically it is up to you. This is a bill that will help you and save you money.

Wheel Rims Can Be Repaired!

February 26th, 2010
Samantha McCartney asked:

Our vehicles endure a lot of wear and tear, especially certain areas of our vehicle. Areas like the bumper, the hood, the side mirrors, the windshield and our wheel rims. Our wheel rims encounter a lot each day and sometimes get scraped or scratched. It is important to keep our vehicles looking good and that means sometimes having to get auto body repairs. One auto body repair that you may need is wheel rim repair, and it is also one repair that you are surprised can be done.

Many times our vehicles wheel rims get damaged from parking curbs, taking corners to sharp on curbs, accidents and so forth. Most people do not realize that wheel rims can be repaired if they need straightening or are scratched or scraped. It is actually a fairly simple process. These are the steps you will take to get your wheel rims replaced.

First you will need to look for a qualified auto body shop to do the work for you. You will want to choose a shop that has a good reputation and that will give you a fair price. You will ask for an estimate, most times they will give you the estimate for free. You may want to ask to see the kind of work they produce to see that their quality matching with what you are expecting. You should look into a few shops before deciding which one is best for you and your vehicle.

Next they will schedule you a time to come in. They should tell you how long it will take to repair your vehicle ahead of time so you can prepare and make arrangements if needed. Most times wheel rim repair can be completed quickly so you may not necessarily need a rental. Then they will begin work on your vehicles wheel rims.

They first begin by inspecting the wheel rims looking for any bends or cracks. Any bends or cracks would get straightened before any other work would be done to them. You will want to make sure that they will complete the repair without the use of heat since that can compromise the temper or composition of the alloy wheel rim. If your wheel rims have scrapes or scratches they will clean and then sandblast the wheel rims. Once that is complete they will weld in any missing pieces. Then a top quality primer is applied to the wheel rims. After that they will color match the wheel rims with technology to ensure the color matches the other wheel rims, with two clear coats on top of the paint. Last it is cooked under a shortwave light to harden it and protect it from future damage. It comes out looking great! Most shops will give you a warranty on their work as well if there are any problems.

If your wheel rims are damaged you should definitely get wheel rims repair. Wheel rim repair is much cheaper than buying new rims and can be completed in a fraction of time as well!

Shopping for auto parts can be challenging because, no one brick ‘n’ mortar store can offer you the best deal on all automotive parts. But shopping online can often get you the quality at a price that’s unbeatable.

The following are some of best benefits you can derive from buying auto parts online.

1. It Highly Convenient: You simply don’t need to go out shopping for auto parts, no need to drive your car to a shop or shops, no queues, no waiting, no refueling, or so many things that can tire you unnecessarily. Just hop on in front of your system and you’ve reached the market.

2. Your Options Galore: At an online auto parts marketplace, there’s an abundance of suppliers offering millions of products, from braking system components to engines and automobile accessories. Hence the chances of your finding exactly what you’re looking for and of the quality you desire, are much higher. Compare this to a visit to a brick ‘n’ mortar auto parts store which can only house as much variety of products as the floor space warrants.

3. You Maintain Your Peace Of Mind: At a typical brick ‘n’ mortar store, some salespeople might seem to act pushy at times, and it can very disturbing. Online shopping saves you the trouble of dealing of such an undesirable experience.

4. Get Factual Information About Your Supplier: A trustworthy supplier isn’t only about impressive talking skills or frequent smiles. What you need to know is the background of the seller, and how much experience they have, or what do others who’ve bought from the seller say about him? Several online buying platforms are equipped with either systems to allow you to sift through the responses of other people. And/or they have some kind of a certification program, wherein those sellers who meet a specific quality criteria can be easily identified.

5. You Can Read Reviews: Reviews give you a clearer vision about the quality of products, what to look for? which products to avoid? etc. With online shops you have the option to surf through reviews of professionals, as well as read what customers who bought the products had to say.

6. The Markets Are Open 24 x 7 x 365 or 6!: You don’t need to figure out the working hours of any online store, or wait till they open, or hurry before they close. It’s just you and an online connection that you need. So if you’re one of those nocturnal beings then an online store is just the right place for you.

7. Greater Reach – Distances Don’t Matter: Who said that the automobile industry was a local phenomenon? You can place an order from one part of the world to a seller located at the opposite end of the globe. This is a great facility, especially for business buyers, or who place orders in bulk. However, even consumers or “DIY buyers,” can search nationally or internationally for products they need.

8. A Chance To Buy Pennies On The Dollar: With so many competing sellers out there trying to get your attention with offers, discounts, etc, you as a customer, really are the “KING.” Needless to mention that you can zero in on some of the best deals around, within a short time. And that’s not all, as most of the time shipping is free, or costs very little.

9. It Saves Time: When you go out shopping it can eat into your time, and this can be frustrating especially on a weekend. On the other hand with online shopping you can search and purchase much faster, and you also get to spend more time with family ‘n’ friends.

With so many benefits of online shopping for auto parts, you might visit a real store as you might go for a picnic from time to time.
